About Houston Festivals
Aside from the wide assortment of activities to do and see in Houston, there are various special events and festivals that happen over the course of the year that are worth viewing if you get the opportunity. Better yet, pick a few of your favs and prepare a trip or vacation around them for an unforgettable time. From music to food to fond memories, Houston has it all.
There are plenty of food and music festivals that happen all through the year in Houston. For the greatest in food, get into town for the duration of the Houston Barbeque Festival. This yearly event is a showcase for beginners and pros alike to share their special, secret barbeque sauces and have them critiqued. In addition to the assortment of sauces, the meat is just as diverse, so the all-around festival includes something for every single barbeque enthusiast. There are several classes of sauces to be judged in, and the winners get bragging privileges for the entire year. The event occurs on the last weekend of June each year.
Staying in the food vein, there's also an amazing Southwestern Food Festival that happens in August each year. This gala showcases the greatest in southern foods, from barbeque to Tex-Mex to gourmet food items. Visitors to the festival find that the taste and selection of authentic Tex-Mex cuisine is much wider than they've been exposed to outside of the area, and it is truly a culinary experience as well as a cultural one.
For alternate entertainment festivals, take in the Great Gatsby Festival, Southwest Music Festival, or the Film Festival. The Great Gatsby is a celebration of the way of life of the 1920's, including dress, music and dancing suitable to the time. The Southwest Music Festival, as its name implies, is a March presentation of the rising stars in western music, and the band listing changes every year. Lastly, to be on the cutting edge of film and the entertainment industry, you must attend the Houston Film Festival, which showcases films with a southwestern theme, and is rising in recognition yearly.
