Camping Fun in Texas
Camping is as much a part of Texas culture as the state itself. Outside of the huge metropolitan cities lie an array of state parks and open terrain just waiting to be uncovered and enjoyed. Since you can go camping almost any time of the year, you have no excuse for leaving the sleeping bag stuffed in your storage area.
Over seventy state parks are located in the state, so there's definitely one nearby. Set out with the family for a rejuvenating weekend at the campsite. Complete the cliché with a bonfire and a day of fishing with the children. If things go well you can cook the fish you caught for supper that night.
If you're in the Dallas vicinity, take advantage of Bonham, Cedar Hill, Eisenhower, or Lake Mineral Wells State Parks. All have the amenities you'd expect to find at a state park, and some great surprises for the children. Horseback riding, boating, and hiking are but a few of the fun things to do. Grab the tent and pack up the kids.
A bit further South in the state? Head for Hill Country of central Texas. This area offers some of the best camping in the state, with tons of opportunities to hike and explore. Blanco, Garner, Inks Lake, and McKinney Falls are some of the more notable parks, with play areas, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking. Some have cabins for rent, so you can always enjoy the outdoor experience without sleeping on the ground.
