Planning Where You Will Stay for Your Peruvian Getaway

Like any other tourist destination, housing in Peru can cost a little or as much as you can afford. Host families, hostels, hotels, and luxury resorts are all accessible, all varying in price and amenities. Booking a vacation through a travel agency will most likely get all of your overnight stays set up for you in advance, but if you have a selection of places to see and no particular order, you will be choosing your sleeping options from day to day.

Believe it or not, there are actually places in Peru that offer free lodging. This is possible through a network of hospitality exchange families who offer a room to guests for an evening in their homes. Sometimes, they will even provide a meal. The biggest problem with this type of accommodation is these host families are usually only located in the major cities, and spaces are limited. But if you can get in on one of these stays, you’ll get to meet some of the local citizens and save some money.

The step up is cheap lodging. This consists primarily of hostels, set up for backpackers touring the country. These cost only a few dollars a night, and are available in almost every city. Accommodations are basic, and amenities non-existent. But they do provide a low-budget alternative to the vacationer with little spare cash.

Hotel rooms fall into the inexpensive lodging category. These hotels, usually situated on the perimeters of cities or off the main paths, will provide some basic amenities, and are not uncomfortable stays. These rooms usually cost between $30 and $100 per night. An alternative for the same price is to stay with a host family. This is the paid version of the hospitality exchange program, and you will still get to interact with locals and enjoy a local home-cooked meal.

In conclusion, step up to a luxury accommodation. These are the primarily hotels for tourists, set up in major cities and near major tourist attractions. Prices range from $100 to $1000 a night. These offer by far the best accommodations and amenities. Many offer restaurants, exercise rooms and spas, planned day trips, and casinos. They are definitely the way to go if you can afford them.
