Stay Sane While Traveling With Kids
Getting away from home and taking a trip with your kids can be a great way to create fond memories as a family. However, it can also be difficult to create memories that nobody really looks back on fondly. If you do not prepare for your trip with kids, you may find that you do not get to enjoy the time spent traveling with your kids as much as you would like. Use the following suggestions to plan for your trip with your kids and stay sane as you make your way to your destination.
Pack up different bags of activities. You need to have a variety of things to offer your kids to keep them entertained in the car. You can pack one bag that has coloring books and crayons, another that has travel board games, one that has small toys that your kids love and anything else that you think might keep them occupied as you travel. Keeping them busy means you get to enjoy the ride without hearing them screaming in the backseat or inquiring as to whether you are there yet.
If the activities you have provided your kids with are not doing the trick, be prepared to play games along with them. It can be very fun for you to get the chance to play license plate bingo, eye spy and any other game you can find. Use the Internet to find some great ideas for travel games to entertain everyone in the car.
Drinks and snacks will play a critical role in the happiness of everyone in the car. Make sure that the snacks that you pack are not full of sugar and that the drinks are not caffeinated. You really do not want to give your kids any excess energy in the car. They are going to have to sit still for a while and jacking them up with candy and pop is not going to make it an enjoyable trip for anyone.
Your kids should be wearing comfortable clothes when you leave your house. Make sure they are not constricting their bellies at all. The more comfortable their clothes are, the less likely they will become uncomfortable and miserable. If you are traveling at night, consider allowing them to travel in their pajamas.
Bring along a wide selection of music. You have to bring along something for everyone. You can then take turns picking the music. You may find that the kids music choices make you crazy, but it is less nerve racking than hearing them picking and fighting in the backseat.
Take along a portable DVD player and a decent selection of movies. If you have more than one kid, consider borrowing a DVD player for each of your kids. Those movies, with some headphones can make a long trip go by very quickly. Before the kids know it, you have made it to your destination.
You can create happy memories when traveling with your kids. Being prepared can make all the difference! Use these suggestions to plan for a trip everyone will love and cherish for years.
