FD Torres del Paine National Park
FD Torres del Paine
Visitors will be able to enjoy the most diverse landscapes, such as, the Magellanic deciduous forest and the vast Patagonian steppe dominated by the wind and aridity. On the way is possible to find two species members of the local fauna: the Patagonian guanaco, South American camel and relative to the Llama, and the endemic lesser Rhea (Ñandu), relative of the African Ostrich. Once we get to the park, which is a biosphere reserve with a surface over 242.000 hectares, the landscape changes drastically becoming unforgettable due its dozen lakes populated by marine birds, and in the background granite picks dominating the area. Turquoise
lakes, waterfalls and mountains covered by ice are the predominant landscape inside the park. A walk for 15 minutes into the park is necessary toward the Waterfall (Salto Grande), which communicates two big lakes inside the park; Nordenskjold and Pehoe. After lunch the trip continues with a walk on the shores of Grey Lake, where blue icebergs can be seen, and in the background the vast Grey glacier imposes its magnificent ice. In the afternoon back to Puerto Natales.

Day at Leisure
Enjoy this day to visit the surrounding areas of Puerto Natales, we recommend the following excursions.
-Balmaceda & Serrano Glaciers-
The Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers are located inside Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, which is located 31 miles to the Northwest of Puerto Natales and it is part of the Andean mountain range. The visit to the park is wonderful, a place untouched by humans. Its access is only by boat, sailing through the Ultima Esperanza Fiord. Its name is owed for being the “Last hope” to find the Strait of Magellan in 1557, for a expedition that came from the Pacific Ocean.
The trip begins in the port of Puerto Natales, and on the way can be seen the building that belonged to “Frigorifico Bories”, which was one of the largest meat packing plants in Patagonia, and a small colonies of Cormorants and Sea lions. The flora is dominated by different species of beech trees, Calafate, Chilco and Canelo among others.
The Balmaceda glacier can be seen from the boat, or visit the Serrano glacier with a walk for 20 minutes on a path bordering a calving lake originated by the melting of the glacier.
-Horseback riding in Patagonia-
Excellent alternative to experience Patagonia on board of unique horses that will help you travel trough the Patagonian pampa crossing old estancias until you reach Villa Luisa where a Patagonian Asado will be served.
