The excursion to Santiago starts with the Civic Center and its neighborhood, continuing downtown to visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Main Square known as Plaza de Armas. Amaze yourselfwith the surroundings of the Main Square and the artists that randomly appear to make theatrical numbers. Just a block ahead is the Pre- Colombian Museum; which is considered one of Santiago’s best museums with pieces of art from American cultures that existed before 1492. Its statues, carvings, ceramics and textiles make this museum one to remember. Later take the bus and travel trough the typical streets of the Civic Center until you reach: La Moneda Presidential Palace. The excursion will continue via metro (subway) to Santa Lucía Station to visit a magnificent park called Santa Lucia and its unique castle. Leave Santa Lucia and walk towards the Bellas Artes Museum to view this impressive architectural work. Finish the expedition at Lastarria Neighborhood, a residential area with a neoclassic architecture from the beginning of the 20th century and cultural influence: art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, cultural centers and off course: green areas.

Day 2
Puerto Montt - Chiloe
Transfer to Airport to take the morning flight to Puerto Montt. Arrival at Puerto Montt and departure to the enchanting Island of Chiloe. First head towards Puerto Montt and then off to Pargua, a small fishing village whose inhabitants work in the extraction of sea urchins. At times divers can be seen arriving back in port after a long day of work. In Pargua board a ferry to cross the Chacao Canal. Have a chance to observe the great variety of marine birds, sea lions, and the playful dolphins that accompany the ferry during the approximately 30-minute crossing. Advancing along the coastline towards the island’s first town, Chacao, notice innumerable black-necked swans along with other shorebirds. Chacao, founded in 1567, and its church dating from 1710, were visited by Charles Darwin in 1834. In his book The Voyage of the Beagle he describes the town in several passages. After a brief stop, take a rural road to Caulin Bay, along one of the principal bird migration routes. A marine bird sanctuary has been established here and you will be able to enjoy watching an incalculable number of species feeding here. The specific species to see depends on the time of year. While walking on the beach have the possibility to meet local residents and observe how they harvest seaweed, and transport their crop over the beach on ox drawn skids. The next stop will be the very heart of the archipelago of Chiloe, the beautiful city of Castro. On sighting the city see the famous “houses on stilts” called palafitos from which the island culture is born. Have lunch at a local restaurant, then visit the city’s main attractions such as the municipal market where the local people sell the products they cultivate or create. Continue on to the plaza to enter and get to know one of the island’s wonders, the majestic Church of San Francisco de Castro, a world heritage site.
