Additional Trip Notes:
Following this ancient Inca Trail we will be walking past mysterious archeological sites, half covered by the jungle overgrowth that looks like you are discovering them for the first time, and finally arriving to the lost city of the Incas: Machu Picchu. Our journey is conducted by experienced guides that will make your trip most pleasant and safe. Also our luggage will be carried by native "quechua" carriers. The meals are delicious.

DAY 1:
Cusco - Km. 82 – Huayllabamba

MachupicchuTransfer from the hotel to Km. 82 in which we will meet our porters and equipment. We start our trek escorted by the porters going through semi-arid terrain along the Urubamba River with magnificent views of snow capped mountains, until we arrive to Llactapata. Here we leave Urubamba valley and set off up the Kusichaca river to our camp in Huayllabamba (3000 m – 9842 ft aprox), where is our first camp site. (Lunch and dinner).

KM 82 – Llactapata: 5 KM / 3 hours aprox.
Km 82 to Huayllabamba: 11 km / 6 hours aprox.

DAY 2:

After a healthy breakfast we begin to walk to the Warmihuañusca pass (4200 mts - 13860 ft. Approximately). After a short time, we will reach the top of the pass. From this place, it is possible to see the other side of the way leading to Runkurakay ruins. At the end of a gorge, we will stop at a place called Pacaymayo (3600 mts. – 11181 ft.), our second camp. Full meals included.

Huayllabamba-Pacaymayo: 7km / 7 hours approximately.

DAY 3:
Pacaymayo – Wiñaywayna

From Pacaymayo A while later zigzag but short ascent will take us to the Runkurakay circular ruins. There is no sign of human life, only great woods and abrupt hills.

After a good rest we start the way down and then we can clearly notice that the Inca Trail is well preserved from this point. In a short while we will get the steps which go up to Sayacmarca ruins (3620 m – 11946 ft aprox).

From Sayacmarca the stone road begins to get into the jungle, we will continue our trek toward Phuyupatamarca ruins. The trail crosses the "Lago Seco" and for brief moments we go up and down. We will cross "The Tunnel", a natural cavity produced by a landslide but adapted by the Incas. The Inca Trail well traced borders continuously the hills full of moss and fern. After crossing a small pass we can see some steep steps and under these the Ceremonial Center of Phuyupatamarca ruins. (3650 m – 12045 ft aprox) Going down the trail we can see the Urubamba valley and the river of the same name. The path goes down to Wiñay Wayna ruins(2650 m – 8745 ft aprox),, the most important after Machu Picchu and the last site for our camp. (B,L,D). (7 hours hiking)

Pacaymayo – Phuyupatamarca: 7 km / 6 hours aprox.
Phuyupatamarca – Wiñaywayna: 4 Km / 3 hours aprox.

DAY 4:
Wiñaywayna - Macchu Picchu - Cusco

MachupicchuVery early in the morning we will leave our camp towards Inti Punku (2740 m-9042 ft aprox the last pass. From this site Machu Picchu (2450 m -8085 ft aprox) looks unreal and beautiful. We can visit the whole ruin the rest of the day. The train goes back to Cusco from the Aguas Calientes station. Arriving and transfer to the hotel. (B,L). (5 Hours hiking)

Note: The last camp could be Phuyupatamarca.
Pacaymayo – Wiñaywayna : 11 km / 9 hours aprox.
